Obituary of Grace M. Mclaughlin

Grace M. McLaughlin Grace M. McLaughlin, a resident of the Village of Wappingers Falls since 1950 and formerly of Hyde Park, entered into rest Friday, November 13, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 87. Daughter of the late Daniel and Estelle Darby McLaughlin, she was born February 27, 1922 in Fayston, Vermont. She was a graduate of Chazy Central Rural School in Chazy, New York, Plattsburgh State Teachers College and New York University. Prior to her retirement in 1977, she was an Elementary School Teacher for twenty-seven years with Wappingers Central School District. Grace was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wappingers Falls. She also belonged to the Retired Teachers Association both New York State and Dutchess County as well as Wappingers Congress of Retired Teachers. She is survived by five nieces, Marie Salter, Esther McLaughlin, Lenore Whitten, Katrina Smith, Elizabeth Reil; one nephew, Elwin McLaughlin; several great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins as well as her adopted family, Barb Montross and Betsy Montross-Burger and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Dalton McLaughlin and her longtime companion, Robert Montross. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 16 at the United Methodist Church, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
