Obituary of Velia M. Florio

Velia M. Florio Velia M. Florio, a resident of the Town of Fishkill, entered into rest Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 77. Daughter of the late Federico and Vitalina DiFalco, she was born August 8, 1931 in Hoboken, New Jersey. She graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx. On October 31, 1953, she married the love of her life, William B. Florio; Mr. Florio preceded her in death on July 23, 2003. Velia was a parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church in Fishkill. She had a very strong faith and was especially devoted to Padre Pio who helped her in her recent struggles. Her family was most important to her; her life revolved around them. She enjoyed cooking for her family and especially treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. Velia also liked spending time with her friends, especially on their trips to Atlantic City. Survivors include her children, Frank Florio and his wife, Rozanne of Long Valley, New Jersey, Maria Roman and her husband, Kenny of Wappingers Falls, and Lenore Allen and her husband, Brian of Beekman; her grandchildren, Frank, Jenna, Elysia, Erica, Emily and Ava; her sister-in-law, Sr. Loretta Marie Florio; and her nieces, Patricia Restivo and Elisa Perotti. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Guido DiFalco and her sister-in-law, Irene Perotti. Family will receive their friends on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 13 at St. Mary Mother of the Church, Jackson Street in Fishkill. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, Poughkeepsie.
