Mr. Oestrich was my first scoutmaster when I joined Troop 26 in 1970. One of my earliest scouting memories is of Mr. Oestrich teaching me and my brother (Kurt) map and compass in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church. I still use a hand compass today while navigating through the woods for my job – no battery needed. I will always have fond memories of Mr. Oestrich and my scouting years in Troop 26. Respectfully, Steven Hubner, Norfolk, VA.

On the Sunday I first came to FPCWF, when I moved to the area 45 years ago, the first person I met was Clint. See, I assumed the church service was at 11:00, but it was at 10:00. Being a shorter service during the summer, when I arrived Clint was locking the doors. He asked, "Can I help you?"
Over the years I came to realize hospitality was one of Clint's greatest gifts. When he was the church custodian, I often thought his title was Church Receptionist. He always enjoyed being at church, whether for Boy Scouts or church related things. Clint always had a smile on his face, a greeting on his lips, and an ear to listen.
Clint was the kind of person who couldn't sit still. He would be in motion all the time, tending to the little things around the church. One real passion of his was using the ladders, though eventually we had to convince him that he should leave that kind of work to others.
Clint was a gift to the church and to so many people. Thank you for everything. You will be missed. But, you will always be remembered.

Clint was so much more than he shared. A humble man who loved his wife, Lois, and was very proud of his four children, Steven, Mark, Robert and Christine.
Clint gave without a second thought when he could. He told story after story. Each time Clint repeated the story it was better. Maybe, because he loved telling them. Some of the stories Clint shared showed a hero. He was honorable in ways he didn't share to have credit. Clint saved lives, ran back and forth to school every day at lunch time, tought baseball for kids to grow inside, had mischeif many times and played chess better than most.
Every week when Clint was able to do so, he would come to visit with a cup of coffee and a joyful face just to spend some time talking. He grew on me. I learned about a love and desire he had in serving others with sincerity.
There is so much about Clint that earned true respect. May Clint rest in peace with Lois.

I will miss Clint. He was one of a kind. We spent at least 15 years on the property committee at Church. I was 30 minutes from visiting Clint on Saturday when I received a call that he had passed on in his sleep I had just purchased some
Chocolate covered strawberries that I was going to give him. Each day now I eat one in remembrance of Clint.

Mr O was the heart of Troop 26 for most of it's existence - he was a great mentor and taught me a great deal about how to lead a Scout troop. He had an almost magical connection to the many young men that passed through our Troop over the years. Until we got a trailer years later, Mr O's blue vans were our Troop gear transport and always seemed to get us and our gear where they needed to be despite the condition they were in after many many miles. He'll be greatly missed by generations of Scouts and Scouting families.

In the Scouting community, we honor, grieve and share the news of a long-time scout leader in the tradition of Lord Baden Powell by using the trail symbol for “gone home.” A Scout tracking symbol made from sticks or stones and taking the shape of a circle with a dot in the middle. The sign is used to show that the person laying the trail has ‘gone home’.
When a scout leader, who lived a long vibrant life, helped hundreds of Scouts and families, and earned the role of a leader in the community finally passes, we celebrate all the meaning and value they brought to each of us. In fact, in many ways, that’s how Scouting remembers our heroes who have passed. We each live out the best qualities we gained from their generosity.
