Obituary of Samuel Brown
Samuel Brown, Jr. (Sam), a resident of Wappingers Falls for the past 34 years, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2013. Sam leaves behind his beloved wife, Ethney Brown; beloved daughter, Sandra Brown Parker and her husband, Zachari; grandson, Shawn Pressley and his wife, Tosha; granddaughter, Starr Brown; great-grandchildren, Kahir, Saivon and Amirikal Pressley; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and cousins; sister-in-law, Lou Grant; and niece Minnie Pearl Simmons.
Sam served in both World War II and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1952, having attained the rank of Sergeant Major.
After discharge, Sam worked as a civilian with the Veterans Administration in Manhattan for thirty years, until his retirement.
Mr. Brown was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls for over 30 years. He also served on the boards of St. Simeon Senior Citizens Home and the Migrant Ministry.
Sam's motto throughout his life and career was based on the advice of his grandfather: "pride, self-respect and hard-work" and "you get out of life, what you put into it".
Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church; the Reverend Deborah Magdalene will preside. Entombment will take place in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Road, Poughkeepsie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zion Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, 12 Satterlee Place, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
