Obituary of Ruth Sutton

Ruth Sutton, a resident of Alameda, California and formerly of Hyde Park and Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, October 18, 2011. She was 93. Daughter of the late Thomas and Lena Mewkill Hamilton, she was born December 30, 1917 in Hughsonville. She was a graduate of Hughsonville Grammar School and Wappingers High School. She was also a graduate of Poughkeepsie Business Insitute. On June 15, 1941 at Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers, she married Edwin Sutton. Mr. Sutton preceded her in death on May 18, 2006. Ruth was a secretary at the National Biscuit Company in Beacon for twenty years and went on to work as a secretary in the Town of Wappinger Assessor and Town Clerk's Office, retiring in 1981. Ruth was one of the first members of the Wappingers Historical Society where she was a past president, a member of the Hyde Park Historical Society and a Past President of the Wappingers Home Demonstration. She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls, had attended St. James Church in Hyde Park and also attended Christ Episcopal Church in Alameda. She was also a member of the Mastik Senior Citizen Center in Alameda. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Fein of Alameda, California; her granddaughter, Shelli Rawlings-Fein and her husband, Marty of San Francisco; her two great-grandchildren Sarah Viola and Matthew Zvi Rawlings-Fein as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Douglas and William Hamilton and her sister, Dorothy Stickle. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Zion Episcopal Church, Satterlee Place, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot in Wappingers Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Ruth's name to a charity or church of your choice.
