Obituary of Margaret Teri

Margaret Teri Margaret Bertolino Teri of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Monday, August 27, 2007 at Lutheran Care Center. She was 94. Daughter of the late Antonio and Vitina Bertolino, she was born on October 5, 1912 in Brooklyn, soon after her parents' emigration from Sicily. She married Anthony F. Teri on June 11, 1944 in Brooklyn; he precedes her in death, passing on May 28, 1994. Mrs. Teri attended Farmingdale State School, a branch of Cornell University, and Brooklyn College. Her dream was to become a doctor, but she decided to pursue teaching instead. She and her husband moved to Belen, New Mexico where they lived for 30 years before returning to the area. Margaret loved her time in Belen. While there, she did volunteer work for the Belen Public Library. She also was an avid reader and piano player. Margaret gave much of her time to charity, including her contributions to various animal friendly causes. Survivors include her daughters, Vita Powers of Wappingers Falls, and Linda Teri and her husband, Michael Vanderlinde of Kenmore, WA; brother, Lawrence Bertolino of Sarasota, FL; sister, Lillian Yamari and her husband, Eiichi of Farmingdale; granddaughter, Michelle Margaret Powers of Naperville, IL; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 7 p.m. at Lutheran Care Center, 965 Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie.
