Obituary of Albert John Kells

Albert John Kells Albert John Kells of Highland, beloved husband, father and grandfather, entered into rest Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was 72. Albert was born on January 20, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island. The eldest of five children, he was the son of the late John and Mary Wise Kells. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence in 1952. He served in the United States Army until his discharge in 1957 with the rank of First Lieutenant. He then went on to serve as Captain in the Army Reserves for 7 years. He also received a B.S. degree in Accounting and Finance from Bryant College in Providence, in 1960. He and his family moved to Dutchess County in 1966. He worked for IBM in East Fishkill as a financial analyst until his retirement in 1990, after 25 years of service. He was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and extensively researched the genealogy of the Kells name and the Book of Kells. He also was an avid tennis player; he was a 30 year member of the former American Tennis Club in Hopewell Junction. Al loved his family, friends and life in general. He was known for his quick wit and his happy, optimistic outlook. Albert is survived by his loving wife, Carole, with whom, on July 6, 2007, would have celebrated 50 years of marriage; his daughters, Karen Corby and her husband, Steve of Cornwall and Kathleen Glass and her husband, Peter of Park City, Utah; his grandchildren, Sam and William Corby, and Madelyn and newborn Colten Glass; sisters, Alice Arruda of R.I., Mary Ann Pickering and her husband, Arthur of R.I. and Patricia Pitocchi and her husband, Richard of the state of Florida; brother, John Kells and his wife, Betty of N.M.; sisters-in-law, Mary Palombo and her husband Peter of R.I., Stephanie LaCourse of R.I. and Chrysenda Gatewood and her husband, William of V.A.; brother-in-law, Manuel Coloura and his wife, Donna of T.X.; and several nieces and nephews, all who loved the "Uncle Al". Family will receive their friends on Monday, March 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 20 at the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum in Poughkeepsie. Cremation will follow.
