Richard C. Winne
Richard C. Winne returned to the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 85 years of age. He was the victim of Alzheimer's Disease for over ten years.
Son of the late Howard G. and Margery Dodge Winne, he was born April 25, 1921 in Wappingers Falls. He remained a local resident but also enjoyed a seasonal Adirondack Mountain home for thirty years. He and his second wife of thirty-nine years, Gladys, physically built the home together. It was their joy.
During World War II, Richard served in the United States Navy. He enlisted in July of 1942 and received his training at the Naval Research Laboratories in Washington D.C. and at Norfolk Navy Yard. He was overseas for twenty months serving aboard the USS Wasatch, a communication flag ship of the 7th fleet. He also served at various naval radio shore stations in the south and southwest Pacific. He was honorably discharged as a Chief Radio Technician on January 29, 1946.
On November 20, 1967, he married Gladys Edgerton Scott. God blessed them for thirty-nine years.
He retired from IBM, Poughkeepsie as a Senior Lab Specialist, after thirty years of service in 1986.
He was a lifetime member and past master of the Oak Grove Grange and was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wappingers Falls.
Survivors include wife, Gladys M. Winne at home; two sons, George R. Winne and his wife, Leslie Jane of Carbondale, Colorado and Arthur E. Winne and his wife, Diane of Boca Raton, Florida; a daughter, Carolyn J. Winne of Boynton Beach, Florida; grandson, Arthur J. Winne of Boca Raton, Florida; one step-son, Randolph D. Scott of Clinton Corners; and three step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two step-sons, Robin and Terry Scott.
Interment will be in the spring at the family's convenience in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
