Obituary of Joni L. Ettinger

Joni L. Ettinger Joni L. Ettinger of the Town of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 46. Daughter of Joseph Hider of High Falls, NY and the late June Dickerson Hider, she was born on January 19, 1959 in Albany, NY. Joni enjoyed the time she worked in many local daycare centers, as she loved children. She also volunteered as a den mother for cub scouts in both Wappingers Falls and Poughkeepsie, for over ten years. She, along with her husband Ron, participated in the Relay for Life, with Joni serving as captain of her team. This relay became and important part of her life, being that she is a survivor herself; she overcame a long battle with cancer. Survivors include her husband, Ronald D. Ettinger, Jr. at home in Poughkeepsie; her sons, Cody Ettinger and Tyler Ettinger, at home; her sisters, Janine Hider and her husband, Kevin Cotren, of High Falls, NY and Jen Mount of Rochester, NY; her nieces, Jordan and Jennifer; her nephew, Christopher; and many extraordinary friends. Family will receive their friends on Friday, June 10, 2005 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls, 9 South Mesier Avenue. Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joni's name to the American Cancer Society, Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
