Obituary of Efrain Cruz

Efrain Cruz Efrain Cruz, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla. He was 61. Son of Luz Maria Talavera of Puerto Rico and the late Israel Cruz Mendez, he was born October 26, 1949 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. He married the former Marta E. Nazario on March 22, 1975 in Brooklyn. Mrs. Cruz survives at home in Poughkeepsie. Efrain proudly served his country in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Beacon. Efrain enjoyed fishing as well as racing pigeons. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his selfless love; often filling roles that were lacking in other's lives. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by his children, Lourdes N. Cruz, Efrain A. Cruz and Omar A. Cruz; his sisters, Luz N. Cruz, Raquel Cruz and Xiomara Morales; his brothers, Norberto Cruz, Omar Cruz and Alfredo Cruz; and his two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ermes and Abisai Cruz. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Efrain's name to American Organ Transplant Association, 21175 Tomball Parkway, # 194, Tomball, Texas, 77070 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
