Obituary of Elizabeth M. Blackburn

Elizabeth M. Blackburn Elizabeth M. Blackburn, a resident of Rhinebeck and formerly of Parklawn Avenue, Town of Rotterdam, Schenectady entered into rest Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. She was 83. Born Elizabeth May Blackburn on April 30, 1927 in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Francis and Margaret Elizabeth (Carmichael) Blackburn. She finished eighth grade at Bigsby Elementary School and graduated in 1943 from Draper High School. Prior to her retirement, Betty was an executive secretary at GE for forty-seven year in Schenectady. She enjoyed her work and had many friends there. Betty also enjoyed golfing, bowling and the GE chorus. She was involved in the Immaculate Conception Church teaching lessons to children. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Helen T. Blackburn of Wappingers Falls; her seven nieces, Lynn Anne Kovacs of Raleigh, North Carolina, Nancy Elizabeth Cornell of Hyde Park, Karen Maureen Donnelly of Hyde Park, Diane Patricia Thorn of Fairport, Carol Jean Burnett of Hyde Park, Anne Mary Schiavone of Hopewell Junction and Kathleen Marie Blackburn of Rhinebeck; her two nephews, James Gerard Blackburn of Wappingers Falls and Brian Timothy Blackburn of Wappingers Falls; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, John Emmit in 2002, James Francis in 2001 and Joseph Richard. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will be in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
