Obituary of John Joseph Coleman

John "Johnny" Joseph Coleman, Jr. THORNWOODJohn Joseph Coleman Jr., former sales associate at ETI Sales, Inc., died suddenly on October 13, 2010 of a heart attack. He was 46. John was born on August 30, 1964 in New London, CT to Ann and John Coleman Sr., who later moved to Poughkeepsie, NY. John Jr. was a 1982 graduate of Roy C. Ketcham High School, where he was a running back for the school's football squad. Following graduation, he attended SUNY Buffalo and later pursued his passion for acting at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. In 1989, he was the best man at his twin brother Chris's wedding to the former Julie Lambert in Letchworth State Park, NY. In the early 1990s, John relocated to Westchester County, NY, where he resided until his death. A lifelong movie buff and music fan, he had a detailed knowledge of both art forms. His favorite band was Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, and John was a karaoke enthusiast. He was on his way to sing karaoke at one of his favorite local clubs on the last night of his life. Most recently, John was preparing to launch Surreal Films, a production company dedicated to finding seed money for independent filmmakers. In 2007, he wrote and directed the short film, "Forces of Evil." His enthusiasm for cinemafor horror, science-fiction and Hitchcock classics like "Vertigo," in particularwas matched by his enthusiasm for pro sports and talk radio. He was a vocal fan of the New York Mets and Jets in addition to Howard Stern. John was also a congregant of the Grace Fellowship. While he was baptized Catholic after his birth, he became a Born Again Christian in 2000. He is survived by his father, John Sr., and his partner Leah Scheuerman; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Julie Coleman; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Lily Coleman; a niece, Lisle Coleman; and three nephews, Stryder, Carver and Von Coleman. He was predeceased by his younger brother Peter in 1994 and their mother in 2000. He leaves behind many other relatives and friends, including aunts, uncles, and cousins. Perhaps no other place made John happier than his beloved Long Beach Island, NJ. He was vacationer there with his family most summers dating back to the 1960s. Mourners are asked to gather at 1 PM in the Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home at 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY on Sunday, October 17. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM.
