Minnie E. Sokol
Minnie E. Sokol, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Monday, May 10, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 67.
Daughter of the late Arthur and Marjorie Heady Gadapee, she was born January 23, 1943 in Beacon. She attended Beacon Schools and graduated from Beacon High School in 1961. On June 28, 1963 at Hughsonville Presbyterian Church, she married the love of her life, John H. Sokol. Mr. Sokol survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Minnie worked for Marriott Food Service at IBM, East Fishkill for several years. For the past thirteen years, together with her husband John, she operated a Bachman Snack Route in Ulster County. Minnie enjoyed cooking, reading, animals and dancing, especially The Cha Cha. She frequented Penny Socials and always enjoyed her Monday nights at Umberto's hearing the sounds of the River Bank Banjo Band. Most importantly, Minnie shared her generous and loving spirit to all she came to know.
Minnie was an active member of the Wiccopee Community United Methodist Church where she was director of the Penny Social and a member of the Circle of Hands.
In addition to her husband, John H. Sokol of Wappingers Falls, she is survived by her two daughters, Shawna Liucci and her husband, George of Gardiner and Wanda McCarthy and her husband, Kevin of New Hamburg; her sisters, Dolores Jasinski of Poughkeepsie and Winona Joyce of Wappingers Falls; her beloved grandchildren, Kevin McCarthy, Jr. of Rapid City, South Dakota, Shannon McCarthy of Los Angeles, California, and Tyler and Georgina Liucci of Gardiner; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Regina.
Family will receive friends on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 at Wiccopee Community United Methodist Church, 7 Old Grange Road, Hopewell Junction. Entombment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wiccopee Community United Methodist Church, Circle of Hands, 7 Old Grange Road, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533.
