Obituary of Marie Ireland Smith

Marie Ireland Smith Marie Ireland Smith, a resident of Hopewell Junction, entered into rest, Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Elant at Wappingers Falls after a long illness. She was 91. Daughter of the late Arthur W. and Mary McCarthy Ireland, she was born June 11, 1918 in Beacon. She was married to Foster Eugene Smith. Mr. Smith preceded her in death in 1968. Prior to her retirement she was a telephone operator for New York Telephone in Beacon and a Switchboard Operator at Craig House in Beacon. Survivors include her daughter, Susanne Smith and her partner, Dr. Marlene Springer of Gulfport, Florida; her son, Douglas Smith and his wife, Mary Lou of Franklinton, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Robert Smith and his wife, Keli of Youngsville, North Carolina and Douglas Smith and his wife, Melissa of Houston, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Hudson and Parker Smith and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive their friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. following at the funeral home. Interment will be in the family plot in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.
