Obituary of Ernest N. Hess

Ernest N. Hess Ernest N. Hess, a resident of New Hamburg, entered into rest Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Castle Point VAMC. He was 94. Son of the late Peter and Wilhelmina Bartenhagen Hess, he was born January 17, 1915 in Queens. He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1932. He moved to New Hamburg in 1933. He married the former Jean Nodine on April 5, 1942 at Zion Chapel, now St. Nicholas on the Hudson in New Hamburg. Ernest proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served at Fort Knox, Kentucky, the Philippines and Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked at Dutchess Bakery Machines in Beacon and later worked for IBM, Poughkeepsie where he retired in 1977. He was a life member of the New Hamburg Fire Company, #1. In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, he is survived by his children, Karen Hess Kaiser and her husband, Kenneth of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, Martha Hess Pascoe and her husband, Robert of New Hamburg and Peter Hess and his wife, Dona Gallagher Hess of Cary, North Carolina; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, John "Harry" and George "Bill" Hess and his sisters, Wilhelmina Harnisch, Margaret Hess and Dorothy Morey. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at St. Nicholas on the Hudson Church, 37 Point Street, New Hamburg. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Ernest's name may be made to St. Nicholas on the Hudson, Building Fund, 37 Point Street, New Hamburg, NY 12590.
