Obituary of Florence H. Smith

Florence H. Smith Florence H. Smith, a resident of Hopewell Junction, entered into rest Friday, October 23, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie after a brief illness. She was 78. Daughter of the late Kenneth L. and Edna K. Smith Hickman, she was born May 6, 1931 in Beacon. She was a graduate of Wappingers Central High School. On July 15, 1950, she married Richard G. Smith at the First Reformed Church of Fishkill. Mr. Smith preceded her in death August 26, 1999. Florence was a longtime member First Reformed Church of Fishkill. She was a member of the Fishkill Historical Society. For twenty-eight years she was a Matron at Van Wyck Junior High School. She was a kind, generous and giving person. Flo was loved by all who knew her. Most importantly she was a wonderful mother and devoted grandmother. She truly cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Linda Rush and her husband, Jack of Fishkill and Jeff Smith and his wife, Alison of Fishkill; her grandchildren, Erika Rush and Ryan and Anna Smith; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Richard G. "Greg" Smith, Jr. and her sister, Phyllis Nameth. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappinger Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, October 28 at the First Reformed Church of Fishkill, 1153 Main Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill. A reception will be held at the First Reformed Church of Fishkill.
