Angela M. McNamara
Angela M. McNamara, a nine year resident of Yorkville, Illinois and former longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, passed away on October 17, 2009.
Daughter of the late James and Anne Shanley Whelan, she was born January 5, 1914 in New York City.
She was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell High School, Cumberland Hospital School of Nursing and St. John's University, New York City. As a Navy Nurse during World War II, she was assigned to St. Alban's Naval Hospital, Queens. In 1952, she married Patrick P. McNamara at St. Paul's Church, Brooklyn. Mr. McNamara preceded her in death April 23, 1999.
Her professional endeavors included being a Teaching Supervisor in Cumberland Hospital, as Administrative Supervisor as The Veteran's Administration Hospital in Ft. Hamilton Hospital, Brooklyn, a Public Health Nurse in the Bedford Stuyvesant Section of Brooklyn and as a School Nurse Teacher in the Vassar Road School, Poughkeepsie.
Angela was an active member of the Mother's Guild, CYO, Renew and Bible Study Groups all at St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. She was a charter member of the Reverend John Donlan Catholic War Veterans, Brooklyn, Women in Military Service for America, Wappingers' Congress of Retired Teachers and St. John's University Alumni.
She is survived by her sons, James (Mary McGroarty) of Cary, IL and Patrick (Peggy Fitzgerald) of Yorkville, IL; her seven grandchildren, Sarah and her husband, Chris, Emily, Caitlin, Michael, Kara, Maggie and Patrick; her great-grandchildren, Ian and Cheyene and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive their friends on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappinger Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, October 24 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
