Obituary of Katherine Clearwater

Katherine Hopkins Clearwater of Wappingers Falls, 87, entered into rest Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Daughter of the late Dr. Frank and Ruth Hopkins Lent, she was born in Peekskill on July 24, 1927; she was one of seven children. Katherine grew up in Peekskill, attending school in a 2 room school house in Vancortlandville . She graduated from Peekskill High School, Class of 1945. She married Roger Weston Clearwater on August 18, 1946 in Hobart, New York and they settled in Shrub Oak. Later they moved to Wappingers Falls and raised 3 children. She is survived by her husband, Roger Weston Clearwater; her children, Susan Levendowski and her husband, Stanley of Fishkill, Beverly Pappalardo and her husband, Anthony of Poughquag, and Roger Dennis Clearwater of Argyle; her brother, Frank Lent and his wife, Louise of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Deborah Boyce and her husband, Shaun, Amy Podhaiski, Holly Herring and her husband, Joseph, John Grant and his wife, Tara, Hannah Clearwater and Rebecca Clearwater; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Katherine enjoyed traveling with Roger; they enjoyed family trips across the United States. They traveled to the British Isles, and celebrated a special anniversary in Hawaii. She was very interested in genealogy and was a direct decedent of Stephan Hopkins, who was a pilgrim on the Mayflower. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wappingers Falls, where she belonged to the Lela Scofield Circle and taught Sunday school. She also belonged to Vancortlandville Historic Society. Katherine was a den mother for her son's Cub Scout pack when he was young. A very sweet person, she enjoyed gardening and growing African Violets. She was an avid reader and liked to knit and crochet. Katherine was a great baker who made the best French apple pie. Family will receive their friends on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls, 9 S. Mesier Avenue in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will follow visitation at the church at 12 noon; Pastor Scharlise Dorsey will preside. Interment will take place in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Katherine's name to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E.
