James J. Churna
James J. Churna of Port Ewen entered into rest, Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. He was 59.
Born on March 29, 1950 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, James was raised by his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Syryca.
James worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for several years, most recently for Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. In his spare time he had many hobbies; he loved to fish and garden. He also dabbled in cooking and loved to play cards. James was a baseball fan, always routing for the New York Mets. He even coached Little League in Wappingers Falls for many years.
Survivors include his former wife, Patricia Churna of Wappingers Falls; son, Timothy J. Churna and his wife, Andrea of Woodenville, WA; daughters, Lynn M. Churna of Highland, and Jean M. Churna and her companion, Kevin Wolensky of Wappingers Falls; granddaughter, Bella; and several nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by his sister, Marlene.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590; Rev. Sandra Mantz will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James' name to the Sarcoma Research Foundation, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065.
