Obituary of Veronica Mary Watson
Veronica Mary Watson of Wappingers Falls, received her reward on Saturday, October 18, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was 75.
Daughter of the late Clifford Thackray and Edith Rodgers Thackray, she was born on January 1, 1939 in Leeds, England. Completing her education, she was trained as a seamstress. In the 1950's she was a member of the British Swim Team. She married Malcolm Watson on July 26, 1958 at Blenheim Baptist Church in Meanwood, Leeds, England. Mr. Watson predeceased Veronica on March 30, 2012.
Mrs. Watson immigrated to the United States in the early 1960's with her family. She went to work at Cresco until her retirement. In her spare time, she gave back to the community; she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Wappingers Falls and was a member of Tres Dias. Mrs. Watson was also a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls where she was involved in the Wesleyan Group and Woman's Ministries. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Most important to her was her family; she truly cherished the time they spent together.
In addition to being married to the love of her life, Malcolm Watson, for 53 years, she is survived by her children, David Christopher Watson and his wife, Lucy of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Martin Graham Watson and his wife, Rosemarie of Poughkeepsie, and Julie Larrain Sarah Levine and her husband, Craig of Grahamsville, New York; her brother, David Thackray; her grandchildren, Allyson, Christina, Jonathan, Christopher, Jeffrey, Nicholas, David, Rebekah, Eliana, and Elesha; her great-granddaughter, Zoey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Watson, grandson, Elijah Jacob Levine, and brother, Charles Thackray.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 24 at the United Methodist Church, 9 S. Mesier Avenue, Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Community Mausoleum, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Veronica's name may be made to the United Methodist Church, 9 S. Mesier Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
