Milton Stepankevich
Milton Stepankevich, a resident of Newburgh, New York and former longtime Greenpoint, Brooklyn resident, entered into rest Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 91.
Son of the late Tymofi and Katherine Pitkova Stepankevich, he was born November 9, 1917 in Brooklyn. Milton proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on December 11, 1945. He married his wife, Anna on October 2, 1955 at the Church of the Transfiguration in Brooklyn. Mrs. Stepankevich preceded him in death on December 21, 2005.
Prior to his retirement, he was an Iron Worker with Local 455 in White Plains. Milton was Russian Orthodox and had attended the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Brooklyn where he was also a member of the VFW. Milton enjoyed sharing stories, especially of his time in the Navy. He was witty and good company to anyone who was around him.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Louise Jenson and her husband, Allen, Lawrence DiMarco, Mark Shan and his wife, Karen, Christine Dyshanowitz, Kim Hughes and Stan Baumann. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Vladimir Stepankevich and his sister, Mary Dyshanowitz.
Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be on Thursday, April 2 in Flushing Cemetery, Flushing, Queens.
