Obituary of Doris Rose Cerniglia

Doris Rose Cerniglia Doris Rose Cerniglia, 81, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina and formerly of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully, September 7, 2008 at her home with her family by her side. Mrs. Cerniglia was born on December 18, 1926 in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was a daughter of the late James and Sarah Curlew Mansfield. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Mariano, of 55 years, and twin sons, John and Peter who were three days old at the time of their death, her sisters, Ellen Perotta, Mae Masten, and Margaret Van Leuvan, and brother, Joseph Mansfield, all of Poughkeepsie, NY. She attended St. Peter's School and Poughkeepsie High School in Poughkeepsie. She was a devoted mother and wife who taught her children to be good Catholics and love each other unconditionally. She was an accomplished seamstress; working for Florence Walsh Designer and other clothing manufacturers in the early 1950's. She also held bookkeeper positions at the Poughkeepsie Journal and IBM Health Association in the 1970's. Surviving are her five children, Frances Evangelista, and Marianne Cerniglia Broast, of Sunset Beach, NC; Dominic and Mark Cerniglia, of Poughkeepsie; and Angela Rhoderick of Vineyard Haven, MA. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Straub, Catalano, and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Thursday, September 11 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappinger Falls, NY. Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Cerniglia's name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 2222 N. 17th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
