Russell A. Mann
Russell A. Mann of Wappingers Falls, died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at his second home in Lew Beach, New York. Russell's death was sudden and unexpected.
Mr. Mann was a retired teacher from the Wappingers Central School District, where he taught driver education at Roy C. Ketcham High School and coached basketball and track and field. He ended his teaching career as a physical education teacher at Kinry Road Elementary School.
Russell was a passionate outdoorsman, enjoying bow, rifle and shotgun hunting, camping, gardening and golf. Russell graduated from high school in Walton, New York, where he excelled in track and field and basketball. He was previously inducted into the NYS Section Four Sports Hall of Fame. Russell took his sports prowess to Ithaca College where he graduated with a major in Health and Physical Education and certification in Driver Education. His gentle nature and passion for life made him a positive role model to all who knew and loved him. His example will live on forever in the hearts and minds of his family and friends.
Russell was born in Black River, New York on June 14, 1936 to Charles Lloyd Mann and Harriette Burton Mann. He was predeceased by his brother, Burton "Bud" Mann.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of twenty-five years, Mary Jo Dyroff Mann; his brothers, Roger A. Mann of Poughkeepsie, Charles Lloyd Mann, Jr. and his wife, Sharlene of Hamburg, New York, Robert Mann and his wife, Beatrice of Daytona, Florida; his daughters, Joyce Mann of Highland and Jacquelyn Mann of Poughkeepsie; his step-sons, Michael Dyroff of New York City and Christopher Dyroff of New York City and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and on Friday, August 29 from 9 to 11 am at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
A memorial service will follow at 11 am at the funeral home.
Memorial donations maybe made to a scholarship fund in Russell's name care of PO Box 131, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590.
