Obituary of Jane S. Gioia

Jane S. Gioia Jane Amelia Scofield Gioia of Wappingers Falls passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 77. Born on July 27, 1930 in Wappingers Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Mildred Baxter Scofield. On December 17, 1950, she married Donald L. Gioia; Mr. Gioia survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Jane attended and graduated from Wappingers Central Schools. She had been employed by IBM and Shop Rite in Wappingers Falls. Her most important job in her life was making a loving home for her husband and three children for so many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mahwenawasigh Chapter. She was also very involved as an active member of the United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls. In addition to her husband, Donald at home, she is survived by her three children, Deborah McGarvey and her husband, John of LaGrange, Edward D. Gioia and his wife, Terri of Wappingers Falls, and David L. Gioia and his wife, Karen of Hyde Park; her loving grandchildren, Erin Muller and her husband, Todd, Elizabeth Langan and her husband, Thomas, Timothy Gioia and Michael Gioia; five great-grandchildren whom she adored, Elorah, Alanah and Finian Muller, and Thomas John and Jane Amelia Langan; her sister, Mary Gruendle and her husband, Donald; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Millicent Scofield and Anne Gruendle. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, March 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls, 9 S. Mesier Avenue; Rev. Sandra Mantz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jane's name to the United Methodist Church, 9 S. Mesier Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
