Obituary of Catherine M. Fortin

Catherine M. "Babe" Fortin, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 89. Daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Bossong Norton, she was born May 7, 1925 in Beacon. She married Vincent D. Fortin on September 8, 1946 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. Mr. Fortin preceded her in death on June 30, 2003. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Babe enjoyed many aspects of life including reading, golfing, taking care of her family, and was a huge Yankees fan. She treasured the time spent in Florida during the winter months with her husband after his retirement. Most importantly, she will be remembered for her love of family. She is survived by her children, Donna Szeba and her husband, Dennis of Swansboro, North Carolina, Thomas Fortin and his wife, Denise of Pleasant Valley, Linda Mascolino and her husband, John of Wappingers Falls, Nancy Blanding and her husband, Tim of Hollis Center, Maine, and Jill McLeod and her husband, Mark of Poughkeepsie; her brother, Jack Norton and his wife, Corrine of South Carolina; her sisters-in-law, Patricia Norton and Sis Norton; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Chad, Becky, Darcie, Marc, Michelle, Jessie and Darren; five great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of fifty-six years, Vincent D. Fortin, she was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Paul and Richard Norton. Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 5 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.
