Obituary of Gertrude R. Maurinac

Gertrude "Rita" Maurinac Gertrude "Rita" Maurinac, formerly of Kerhonkson and Bronx, entered into rest Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Elant at Fishkill. She was 89. Daughter of the late Edgar and Gertrude Simpson Embree, she was born on May 10, 1918 in Yonkers. Rita was married to John Groark, who passed in 1950. She is also predeceased by her second husband, Joseph Maurinac, who passed in 2004. Rita worked as a bookkeeper in the Bronx. She also spent her years caring for her family. She especially loved to crochet and knit. Survivors include her stepson, David Maurinac of the Bronx; sister, Audrey Church of FL.; grandchildren, Laurie Greene and her husband, Dennis of Poughkeepsie, and Stacey Groark of Wappingers Falls; great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Ethan and Camryn; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, she is predeceased by her son, Gerard Groark, who passed on June 21, 2005. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, September 27, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. following visitation. Interment will take place on Friday, September 28 in the family plot at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rita's name to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
