Obituary of Madeleine Evelyn Bowne

Madeleine Evelyn "Mady" Bowne, 93, died August 9, 2014 at Wingate at Beacon in Beacon, NY following a period of brief decline. Mady was born February 11, 1921 in Ticonderoga, NY to Mary (Church) Baker and Elmer Baker. In January 2013 she moved to Wingate at Beacon for rehabilitation where she lived for the rest of her life. She is survived by George W. Bowne, her loving husband of 35 years. In April 2014 George moved to Wingate at Beacon to live with Mady. Prior to this move they lived in Wappingers Falls, NY. Mady and George lived and played together since they were married in 1979. She bowled into her late 80's in the Sunday Night Mixed League at Mardi Bob Lane in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mady and George took long camping trips to Maine during the summer months and created a vast collection of lighthouse memorabilia. They attended endless Country Western Festivals dancing through the night. Bingo and other table games were favorites as well. Together they perfected the art of relaxing and enjoying life. Mady was always able to communicate with George even as his hearing declined. Her most common words were, "I love you, George," which she surely did. For several years Mady enjoyed waitressing in dinners and working in food service positions in several hospitals in the Glenns Falls area. In addition to her husband, George, Mady is survived by her daughter-in-law Sandra Labrum of Hudson Falls, NY; 3 grandchildren, Roberta "Bobby" Labrum of Hartford, NY, Philip Labrum of Hudson Falls, NY, and Alex Labrum of Queensbury, NY; 9 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Kaima Nelson-Bowne of Franklin NY, Marcia Bowne of Oneonta, NY, and Heidi Bowne of Binghamton, NY; nephews, Douglas Bowne of Little Falls NY, and William Dederer, Jr. of Old Orchard Beach, ME. She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Mary (Church) Baker and her son Robert James Labrum. Special thanks to the kind neighbors who supported Mady and George for many years enabling them to live at home. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday September 15, 2014 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
