To the Parson's Family - You have my heartfelt deepest sympathy. I met Bill (and John) when I first became a New York State Trooper in the Fishkill Barracks in 1978. Although he may not recall I always remember the kindness of the first greeting and respected his community service. I enjoyed reading "The Way I See It" and appreciate the smiles he brought. He truely was a legend.
I know I speak for the many Troopers who over the years were fortunate enough to have known him - Thank you Bill for your years of service to the community, country and New Hackensack Fire Department. You and the your family are in our prayers. Respectfully and with Admiration, All your friends in the New York State Police.

We send our deepest condolences and hope and pray that you are doing well during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we hope to spend some time with you soon.
With heart-felt sympathy,

Dear Helen
Jean and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy. I have known Bill since 1955 when I joined the fire department. Bill was instrumental in my becoming a member of the New Hackensack Board of Fire Commissioners and also the Planning Board. In all our dealings, we always respected each other's opinion. Bill was such an asset to this community. He will be missed but not forgotten. I hope the memories in your long marriage will sustain you in your grief. Our thoughts are with you. On behalf of myself and the Muslim community of Hudson Valley we would like to offer our deepest condolences to Mr. Parsons Family. He was not only our neighbor in Wappingers Falls, but also worked very closely with us as a member of the Town Of Wappinger Planning Board during the construction of the first Muslim mosque/masjid in the Hudson Valley and also as the Commissioner of the New Hackensack Fire District. He was a gentle soul and he and I had a very good working relationship. He helped the Muslim community in so many ways and he will be dearly missed. May God Bless him and give him peace in Heaven and may God help his family to bear their loss. Aziz Ahsan, Esq., Trustee Mid-Hudson Islamic Association (2000-2006)

Dear Helen,
please accept our family's deepest sympathy. Bill was a friend and a genuine American patriot, in the best sense of the word. He selflessly provided me many hours of assistance while I was doing my research for my upcoming book about the Battle of the Huertgen Forest and it was through him that I was able to gain access to the wonderful veteran's association of the magnificent 78th Infantry Division. Though I never met him in person, through our phone conversations I felt that I came to know him as a big, warmhearted person who would give his all to help someone out. A sense of the great man he was can be glimpsed through his obituary - we have lost a great American. They didn't call his "The Greatest Generation" for nothing!
Rest in Peace, Bill!
Best regards,
Douglas E. Nash

I am saddened to hear of Bills passing. I spoke with him several times over the past 2 years as I have been gathering information about my father (now deceased) and his activities in the 78th Division. So much is lost to time and with the fire in the Washington military records. And now we are loosing those few good men that were willing to help us with our history. We will miss you Bill and I send my sympathy to your family. Gordon Fritz, Beaufort, SC

Bill was one of the icons of New Hackensack and the surrounding area. A teacher, a listener, a partner, a friend and a leader. If Bill's country ever had a May Pole celebration, he would be the chosen pole. A man who stood tall and all who saw and worked with him admired his talent and patience. We had the questions, he had the answers. He was a sincere help to me back in the early New Hackensack "fire house" days. God bless.

My concolences to Helen and the family.
I knew Bill since 1996 when I became interested in researching the WWII history of the Remagen/Bonn area where I live in Germany. His 78th Infantry Division - and Bill personally as a member of D/311th - liberated my hometown Konigswinter from National-Socialism on March 16th, 1945.
We also met the first time in 1996 on a battlefield tour of the 78th Division Association to Germany. Many more tours followed and I joined each of them. Too many good things happened in those eleven years to name them all here. All this was possible due to Bills will and help to get me involved. I was a reader of the "Flash" and this magazine means a lot to many people. With his personality and his work as the editor of the "Flash" he was the heartbeat of the 78th Division Association. We wont forget him.
Best

Bill was an amazing person. He helped me so much when I was looking for history of my fathers time in WWII with the 78th Division. He was such an inspiration. He came all the way here to Albany with Helen when I was producing my documentary about the 78th. to give me an interview. I feel like a part of me is gone. Bill was like a father to all of us WW babyboomers. He was a gentle soul, always there with a laugh and a smile. I feel so proud to have known him and to have traveled to Germany and Belgium with the gang, led by Bill. What a great person! He will be missed!

Dear Helen:
Unfortunately I never met you, but I knew Bill very well (28 years)and admired him very much. As Lou Battoglia's young partner Bill allowed me to design many projects that he owned or managed. He never discriminated against my youth during the earlier part of our relationship, to the contrary, he encouraged new thinking. He was also one of the very few people who had enough respect for himself to stand up and speak his mind. You always knew where you stood with Bill. I'm happy to have found myself standing by his side on many occasions.
And just one last thought. Bill had universality. Despite the sixty years difference between Bill and my children, my kids always got a laugh out of Bill's vernacular and the humor in his bare truth. My family and I will miss Bill very much.

Dear Helen,
Dot and I wish to offer our condolences on the passing of Bill. As a member of the 78th Division Association I have had the good fortune of knowing and working with Bill for the last ten years, and especially during the years that I was president of the association.
Bill was known by all of us for the solid direction he gave to the organization and his work as Editor of the Flash kept us organized and going so that it was a commonplace to hear members say "Bill Parsons is the heart of our association". I know that I can speak for all our members that we will dearly miss him.

Dear Helen: Even though we knew Bill was not well, it came as a shock to see that he had passed over. It seems like I just spoke to him a month or so ago..just called to say how very much we missed his columns in the Southern Dutchess News and again tried to persuade him to put them into a book..I teased him that my copies of his articles were getting dusty and if he did not write it soon I would be forced to put them into a book form for myself. I always thought he would get around to publishing them...I can't remember not knowing Bill..from passing by his car lot on Myers Corners in the car with my parents to the present..and I will make sure my two grandsons "know" Bill by his articles, which I will finally put in a scrapbook to preserve them ,both for myself, and for the future generations. I counted him as a friend and he will be truly missed. Both Pat and I send our love and prayers. May your good memories console you. Doris Cooke Manning ( Mrs. Patrick B. )

To Bill Parsons' family,
I will always think of Bill with great fondness. I worked with him as a reporter at the Southern Dutchess News many years ago, and still remember his kindness and humor. Despite his lack of formal higher education, he taught me many things about how to write effectively, advice I now try to pass on to my students at Marist. His column "The Way I See It" was always full of wise insights, told sincerely and without pretense. I'm sure his readers gained a lot of knowledge about life in the southern Dutchess area through his down-to-earth, entertaining reminiscences.

I wish to express my sincerest condolences to Bill's family, former comrades in arms and his many friends. Though I didn't know him that well, I knew him mostly through his work with the "Flash" for the 78th Division Veterans.
This man was a giant among men.
We will miss him, but his memory will inspire us to do more than we think possible every day of our lives, for he is the measure of what men can do.
