Vincent H. Cackowski
Vincent H. Cackowski, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie since 1951 and formerly of Staten Island, entered into rest Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 83.
Son of the late John and Frances Gronczewski Cackowski, he was born April 13, 1924 in Staten Island, New York.
He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in New York City and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.
Vincent proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
On October 15, 1949 he married the former Dymphina "Dinny" Krens at St. Christopher's Church in Staten Island. Mrs. Cackowski preceded him in death on August 24, 1996.
Vincent worked in engineering and programming planning at IBM, Poughkeepsie. He retired on March 31, 1986 after thirty-six years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 1302 in Arlington, the VFW, Post 7172 in Staten Island and the Polish American Citizen's Club in Poughkeepsie.
He is survived by his three daughters, Joan E. Korducki of Beekman, Jean Marie Cackowski-Campbell of Athens, Ohio, and Nancy L. Weisel of Port Ewen; his son, Stephen V. Cackowski of Newburgh; his brother, Leon Cackowski of Staten Island; his granddaughter, Robin Weisel and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sister and several brothers.
Family will receive their friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Wednesday, May 2 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls.
Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
