Richard E. Johnson
Richard E. Johnson of the Town of Wappinger entered into rest Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 76.
Son of the late Elwood and Gertrude Tuomi Johnson, he was born on July 7, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis M. Nekton who he married on August 14, 1954 at St. Andrew's Sweedish Lutheran Church in West Hempstead, LI. Mrs. Johnson survives at home.
Mr. Johnson worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie as a Systems Test Engineer for 36 years, retiring in 1991. A computer and electronics enthusiast and truly a gifted and talented man, he was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
In addition to his beloved wife Phyllis, he is survived by two sons, Bill Johnson and his wife Ann of Wappingers Falls and John Johnson and his wife Suzanne of Lemorre, CA; two daughters, Laurie Harlin and her husband Rich of Wappingers Falls and Linda Hodges and her husband Brian of Nashua, NH; one sister, Lila Britz of Waxhaw, NC, seven grandchildren, Jake and Richard Johnson, Genevieve and Andrew Harlin, Steve and Scott Paterson and Mike Hodges; and two great grandchildren, Sarah and Evan Paterson.
He is predeceased by his sister Phyllis Johnson and his brother Robert Johnson.
Family will receive their friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2007 at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13 at the funeral home.
