Edwin D. Frey
Edwin D. Frey of the Town of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 82.
Son of the late Frederick P. and Ethel M. Gevert Frey, he was born on January 12, 1924 in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, Judith M. Wirth, on October 9, 1948 in Elizabeth, New Jersey; she precedes him in death, passing on February 26, 2004.
Mr. Frey graduated from Honesdale High School and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in agricultural engineering from Penn State University in 1948. He later attended college in Maryland where he received his law degree and took his bar exam. Edwin served his country in the United States Army, later the Airforce, actively from 1943-1945. He earned many decorations and commendations including the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Distinguished Unit Citation, the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the European Service Ribbon with three battle stars. After his service, he worked for IBM in East Fishkill as a patent attorney until his retirement.
Mr. Frey was very active in his community, volunteering for Meals-On-Wheels of Wappingers Falls and the American Cancer Society, and staying very active in his parish, the United Methodist Church in Wappingers Falls. He was also very involved in the Elks B.P.O.E. in Wappingers Falls, the VFW Post #1 and the 8th Air Corp 388th Bomb Group. Edwin was also a passionate golfer and the kindest man you could ever know.
Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Vidunas and her husband, Lou of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina and Susan Davis and her husband, Russell Thorpe of Kingston; his sisters, Doris Henry and her husband, Burton of Beach Lake, Pennsylvania and Ellen Gance and her husband, Michael of Endicott; his grandchildren, Rachel, Eric and Kevin Vidunas, and Valerie and Randy Davis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive their friends on Sunday, December 10 from 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Mesier Avenue and East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. Cremation will follow.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Frey's name to the United Methodist Church, 9 Mesier Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590
