Obituary of Salvatore P. Carbone

Salvatore P. Carbone Salvatore P. Carbone, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie for thirty seven years, entered into rest Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 73. Son of the late Salvatore and Philomena Lepore Carbone, he was born January 7, 1933 in Malden, Massachusetts. Sal attended and graduated from Stoneham High School, Stoneham, Massachusetts where he was captain of the basketball team and co-captain of the baseball team. He went on to graduate from St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont where he was a champion chess player. He received his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Sal worked for Sprague Electric in North Adams, Massachusetts prior to working at IBM, Poughkeepsie. He retired in 1992. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. He was also a Third Order Secular Franciscan with Most Holy Stigmata Fraternity at Mount Alvernia and served as Minister for two terms. Among his many volunteer activities, he volunteered at Good Counsel Home in Poughkeepsie where he was involved in the Clothes Ministry and the Homeless Shelter in Poughkeepsie where he served meals. Sal also enjoyed playing tennis and was a duplicate bridge player with the American Contract Bridge Association. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Maneri Carbone at home in Poughkeepsie; his three children, Laura Donnelly and her husband, Michael of West Chester, Pennsylvania, John Carbone of Orange County, California and Jill Rodriguez and her husband, Leo of Hoboken, New Jersey; his five step-children, Lisa Jusko of Davie, Florida, John Maneri and his wife, Sherra of Sugar Land, Texas, Michael Maneri and his wife, MaryAnn of Poughkeepsie, Steven Maneri and his wife, Meggin of Waterford, New York and Robert Maneri of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Carole Vail and her husband, Thomas of Windham, Maine; his grandchildren, Sara, Jared and Allison Donnelly, Alyssa, Kylie, Jaclyn, Michael, Lauren, Steven, Jr., Anna, John and Joseph Maneri; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Wednesday, November 22 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike at the convenience of the family.
