Ura H. Powell
Ura H. Powell, a longtime resident of the Town of Wappinger, entered into rest Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Lutheran Care Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 85.
Daughter of the late Herbert Lewis and Ethel May Hilliker Bishop, she was born January 5, 1921 in Poughkeepsie.
She married R. Bruce Powell on August 31, 1940 at the Friends Meeting House in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Powell preceded her in death, passing on December 12, 1967.
Mrs. Powell attended Arlington Reformed Church for many years. She was a member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club, Ladies Auxiliary, the Ball and Chain Bowling League, where she was a former secretary, and she belonged to the "Y" wives at the YMCA. She was an employee at Kem Plastic Playing Cards for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Ura E. White and her husband, Clarence, Sr. of Wappingers Falls; her three grandchildren, Cathleen U. Fisher and her husband, Steven Brinkman of Poughkeepsie, Clarence D. White, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Wappingers Falls and Sharon A. Oliva and her husband, Joseph of Wappingers Falls; her seven great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Fish, Justin and Alyson Oliva, Ashley and Natalie White and Steven Brinkman; her brothers, Earl G. Bishop of Beacon and his wife, Adeline of Poughkeepsie and Charles A. Bishop of Elkton Florida; her sister-in-law, June Bishop of Poughkeepsie; and three nieces, Christine Edkins of Pennsylvania, Kathy Thielke of Canastota, New York and Andrea Fortier of Florida.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Herbert A. Bishop and her sister-in-laws, Mildred and Helen Bishop.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, September 7, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 8 at the funeral home with Pastor Stacey Judd officiating.
Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
