Obituary of Shirley E. Sheeley

Shirley E. Sheeley Shirley E. Sheeley of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, formerly of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. She was 80 years old. Daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Ann Cooper DeMatteo, she was born on October 20, 1925 in New York City. She was married to Lesley W. Sheeley; he precedes her in death, passing on May 13, 1981. Mrs. Sheeley was a licensed real estate and insurance broker while owning and operating her company, Sheeley Real Estate in Poughkeepsie, for over 25 years. She was also a parishioner of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls, until her relocation in 1993. Shirley devoted her life to her family. She always had time to listen and shared her loving spirit with all. She is fondly remembered by her son, Thomas S. Sheeley and his wife, Deborah and their children, Thomas, Jessica and Brittany, of Amsterdam, NY, her son Lesley W. Sheeley, II and his wife, Summer and their children, Megan and Elizabeth, Barrington, RI and her daughter, Ann S. Sheeley of Portsmouth, RI; her sister, Gertrude McManus of Poughkeepsie; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Lesley, she is predeceased by her brother, Howard DeMatteo and her sisters, Marion Shade and Sally SanFilippo. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday June 13, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Satterlee Place in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
