Obituary of John E. Shay
John "Jack" Shay
John "Jack" Shay entered into rest Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill. He was 73.
Son of the late Kenneth B. and Grace Smith Shay he was born on February 3, 1933 in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Shay graduated from Wappingers Central School in 1951. After he received his diploma, John spent three years working at Lockwood Dutchess. Soon after, Mr. Shay was drafted into the United States Army in 1954 to serve during the Korean War for two years.
When John was released from the Army, he spent a year at KBC in Poughkeepsie. Upon completion at the accredited institution, he went on to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie in the Sales and Service office for 34 years. While he labored tirelessly all day, he enrolled at Marist College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in history.
John worked as a part time bus monitor for Wappingers Central School following his retirement from IBM. He also served for four years as a Trustee at the Village of Wappingers Falls, Second Ward.
Survivors include his sister, Mildred S. Garnot of Glenham; his brother, Kenneth R. Shay and his wife, Elizabeth of Wappingers Falls; and several nieces, nephews and a plethora of cousins.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, May 4, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 5 at 10 a.m. St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
