Anthony J. Rizzo
Anthony J. Rizzo of Wappingers Falls, formerly of Goshen, entered into rest Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He was 85.
Son of the late Saverio and Angelina Celona Rizzo, he was born on December 21, 1920 in Pleasantville.
Colonel Rizzo served in World War II as an Intelligence Officer in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. He supervised the administration of Air Corps squadron in the Azores and was in charge of 1,500 enlisted men and 11 officers. During his reserve duty, he was assigned various supervisory duties and was proficient in the operation of the Area Procurement and Logistic Office which was an AAFES pilot operation for Fort Dix and Maguire Air Force Base Exchanges. Colonel Rizzo retired in 1976 after 26 years of service. He will receive full military honors at his entombment.
Survivors include his wife, Carolanne Galea Rizzo, who survives at home; his sons, Anthony Charles Rizzo and James Vincent Rizzo, both of Wappingers Falls; his sisters, Sadie Cambria of Mahwah, NJ and Mary Brugnatellia of Yorktown Heights; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rizzo is predeceased by his brother Charles Rizzo, who passed in October of 2004.
Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, March 8 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, March 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass if Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist, 71 Murray Avenue in Goshen. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, with full military honors.
