Helen E. Kara
Helen E. Kara, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest, Monday, November 21, 2005 at Eden Park Nursing Home, Poughkeepsie. She was 95.
Daughter of the late Roman and Ludovica Wilhem Szpala, she was born July 5, 1910 in Brooklyn, New York.
She married Frank J. Kara on August 30, 1937 in Yuma, Arizona. Mr. Kara preceded her in death July 2, 1957.
Mrs. Kara was head switchboard operator at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie prior to her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pamela Kara of Poughkeepsie; her two grandchildren, Scott J. Kara and his wife, Jessica of Pennsylvania and Kristin E. Soucy and her husband, Matthew of New Hampshire; her great-grandson, Andrew Joseph Kara; and her nephew, Nathaniel Giambalvo. In addition to her husband, Frank J. Kara, she was predeceased by her son, F. Joseph Kara; her brother, Fred Szpala; her sisters, Stephanie Endres and Elizabeth Giambalvo.
Family will receive their friends from 10:30 to 11 am on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Straub Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
A funeral service will be held following visitation at 11am at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
