Obituary of Angela Stander

Angela "Ann" Stander passed away June 24, 2014, peacefully, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She had been a local resident since 1966. Born on January 25, 1929 in Elmhurst, New York she was the daughter of the late Donato and Madeline Pinto. She worked as a bookkeeper in New York City. Ann married her husband, Ralph, on December 20, 1953. They were married for sixty years. She was mainly a homemaker, but held a few part time jobs when her children were younger. She was always sure to be home when they came home from school. Ann loved people and they loved her. She was a person who welcomed others and made friends easily. She had a positive attitude, hope, a lot of faith, a sense of humor, and looked out for others. Ann loved the Lord and was a true disciple. She was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie and attended groups there including Discovering and Following and Sharing Christ as well as other teachings given. Ann was a part of prayer groups for years including Our Lady of Hope in Newburgh and Hope Healing Ministry in New Rochelle. Ann enjoyed cooking, baking, photography, beaches, trips to Cape Cod, and tending to flowers and plants. She loved birds, butterflies and animals. The family dog, Abby, predeceased her by one day. We will miss her, but we know she is surely in heaven. Survivors include her husband, Ralph; two daughters, Doreen and Sharon of Poughkeepsie; her sister, Rosetta of Whitestone, New York; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Vincent. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30 at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road in Poughkeepsie.
