Obituary of Joyce B. Blom

Joyce B. Blom Joyce B. Blom of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 74. Daughter of the late Robert W. and Vera I. Farnham Benjamin she was born on January 25, 1932 in Poughkeepsie. She married the love of her life, Axel K. Blom on March 4, 1956 in Poughkeepsie; he precedes her in death, passing on November 19, 1990. Joyce attended Wappingers Central Schools before graduating from Vassar Brothers School of Nursing in 1953. She went on to work for Vassar Brothers Hospital for many years and later worked for the former Central Dutchess Nursing Home in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Blom was very involved in her community as a participant in Wappingers Central PTA and an avid parishioner of United Methodist Church in Wappingers Falls. Survivors include her son, Gregory K. Blom of Wappingers Falls; her daughters, Judy Turner and her husband, Donald of Poughkeepsie and Nancy Hoolihan and her husband, Michael of Poughkeepsie; her sister, Joan Andes and her husband, James of Bluffton, South Carolina; her beloved grandchildren, DJ, Stephen and Allyson Turner and Christopher and Caitlyn Hoolihan; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Besides her loving husband, Ken, she is predeceased by her brother, Robert Benjamin, Jr. and her sister, Jacqueline Draiss. Family will receive their friends on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 2:30 pm at United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls with Rev. Sandra Mantz presiding. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
