I am very sorry to hear of Helen's death. She was a wonderful woman- who always went out of her way to be kind and welcoming to me.
I will miss watching the adventures of "Walker: Texas Ranger". I will miss the way she would would hand me the remote- offering to let me change the channel, when we both knew it would be a "big mistake" to turn off said "Walker: Texas Ranger". I will miss the way she would secretly roll her eyes at me over the misadventures of the bird & Storm. And I will always remember one brutally hot summer afternoon, during a BBQ, eating seemingly hundreds of doughnuts on the porch. She had such a bright cheery sense of humor for that sort of thing.
I was away in Europe- so I am sorry I missed the Requim Mass at Holy Comforter. I would have liked to say good-bye. It is also a beautiful Church- and I would have been glad to visit it again.
I always appreciated the kindness your family, particularly Helen, showed me.

Dear Helen Potter's family,
My mother, Ruth Magee, and Helen were friends and fellow teachers in Rome for many years. They also shared the sorrow of widowhood. I didn't know Helen well as I was growing up in Rome, but I certainly knew of her through my mother.
When my husband and I moved to Cortland in 1969 we lived near your mother, and I remember her welcoming visit to us, complete with homemade cookies. How thoughtful she was...
Our sympathy to all of you as you prepare for the funeral of your mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.

Carol - I remember your mother from when I was very young. You and your mother and father and two brothers used to come up to Lake Delta to my house and we would all go swimming in Lake Delta. One time we had a huge bonfire down on the beach. I remember your Mom being so nice to me at your birthday party at your house on Pine Street in Rome. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I'm not sure if you would remember me - we were both less than 10 years old, I think. That was before your Dad and your brother were in the plane crash.
