Obituary of David A. Sampson

David A. Sampson, a resident of New Hamburg, entered into rest on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his home. He was 53. Son of Norma Southwell Sampson and the late Herbert Sampson, he was born September 4, 1964 in Beacon. He graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1983. He worked at IBM and most recently had been a Correctional Officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility. David was very involved in the New Hamburg Fire Company where he was president for the past twenty-five plus years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks especially Tupper Lake. He was an avid New York Jets fans and also rooted for the New York Mets. Survivors include his mother, Norma Sampson at home in New Hamburg; his sisters, Bonnie Johnson and her husband, James of Bridgeville, Delaware and Wendy Zinko and her husband, Joe of Wallkill; as well as his nieces and nephews, Ryan and Emily Johnson and Lindsay and John Zinko. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Members of the New Hamburg Fire Company will gather for a service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20 at St. Nicholas on the Hudson, 37 Point Street in New Hamburg. Interment will be in Wappingers Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to New Hamburg Fire District, 15 Channingville Road, New Hamburg, NY 12590.
