Obituary of Michele Nicholson Carney

Michele Nicholson Carney, a resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She was 44. Daughter of Paul Nicholson of Poughkeepsie and Marie Melara Nicholson of Wappingers Falls, she was born March 15, 1970 in White Plains. Michele married Michael S. Carney on November 20, 2009. Mr. Carney survives at home in Poughkeepsie. She received her Master's Degree in Education from Mount Saint Mary College. Michele worked as a PreSchool Teacher most recently at Honey Bee Child Care in Poughkeepsie. She was the Alumni Coordinator for Roy C. Ketcham High School Class of 1988. Michele was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie. She enjoyed gymnastics both as a participant and coach. She loved photography. Most importantly, she loved being a mom. Survivors include her husband, Michael at home in Poughkeepsie; her father, Paul Nicholson and his wife, Joan Hornbeck of Poughkeepsie; her mother, Marie Nicholson of Wappingers Falls; her daughters, Megan and Gianna Santivenere; her grandmother, Margaret Melara of Poughkeepsie; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Michael A. Carney of Liverpool, England; her sister-in-law, Lesley Carney; her brother-in-law, Joseph Carney; as well as her niece, Mia McKevitt. Family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28 at St. Martin de Porres Church, Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Entombment will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
