Obituary of Joseph E. Wall
Joseph E. Wall, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 80.
Son of the late Peter Ace and Mary Ganley Wall, he was born August 17, 1933 in Sayre, Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, the former Elizabeth Baltrusaitis on March 2, 1954 in El Paso, Texas. Mrs. Wall survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Prior to his retirement, Joe worked as an engineer with IBM for thirty-six years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Joe treasured spending time with his family at the beach, especially Myrtle Beach. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed golfing and woodworking. Joe was a proud and dedicated leader in the Boy Scouts of America for the past 50 years. During this time held various leadership and executive positions within the Hudson Valley Council and has received numerous scouting awards and recognition. Some of his most cherished moments included taking seven scout teams on hiking treks to Philmont Scout Ranch. There are many boys that achieved their Eagle Scouts award based on the mentoring and guidance delivered by Joe.
In addition to his wife of sixty years, he is survived by his children, Joseph L. Wall and his wife, Catherine of Waterbury, Connecticut, Michael T. Wall and his wife, Angela of Phoenix, Arizona, Lori E. Herzhauser and her husband Donald of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mary Chris Wall of Los Angeles, California; his sister-in-law, Regina Wall of Mississippi; his grandchildren, Joseph W. Wall, Andrea L. Wall, Christopher T. Wall, Christian Wall, and Bryan T. Herzhauser; and was favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert B. Wall and sister, Patricia Fassett.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A Mass of Catholic Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's name to the Hudson Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, 6 Jeanne Drive, Newburgh, NY 12550.
