Obituary of Hillar Adamson

Hillar Adamson, a resident of Hopewell Junction, entered into rest Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie following a sudden illness. He was 77. He was born March 13, 1937 in Tartu, Estonia to the late Theodor and Leida Adamson. He was predeceased by his brother, Valdor Adamson, in 2010. He served in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged in 1958. He married the love of his life, the former Joanna Barton on February 10, 1967. Mrs. Adamson survives at home in Hopewell Junction. He worked as a telecommunications manager, retiring from Lucent Technologies. After retirement, he contracted for Verizon then became a bus monitor for Wappingers Central School District. Hillar was a devoted family man; he doted on his wife and treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to teach his grandchildren his hobbies of golfing and bowling. His passion in life was bowling - he had numerous awards and trophies, scoring many perfect games over the years. He taught bowling at Dutchess Community College and was also their bowling coach from 1994 to 2006, during which he was named Region XV Coach of the Year three times. In 2009, he was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame for his work as a bowling coach, leaving a legacy of generations of skilled bowlers. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Poughkeepsie. Hillar will be remembered for always having a smile on his face. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone, was never mad, had an infinite level of patience, and will remain a positive inspiration for his family and friends. Hillar will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Joanna, his children, Karen Adamson of Seattle, Washington, Eerik Adamson and his wife, Sarah of Hopewell Junction, grandchildren Ivy and Eethan. He also leaves behind brother-in-law Richard Barton, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Close family friends, Karen DePaola and Ray Faracca. A celebration of his life will be held at the Holiday Bowl, 1677 Route 9, Wappingers Falls, NY, on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 3 to 7 pm. All friends and family are encouraged to attend. Come throw a bowling ball in his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
