Obituary of Hugo J. Musto

Hugo J. Musto of Wappingers Falls, 90, died peacefully at his home which he built, on Saturday October 28, 2017. Son of the late Maria (Nardone) and Antonio Musto, he was born in Peekskill on February 13, 1927. Hugo served his country in the United States Army Air Corp in Germany from 1945-1947. He graduated Chicago Technical College with an Electrical Engineering degree and worked at IBM for 39 years before retiring in 1989.While working at IBM, he met his loving wife, Jean (Barone) Musto. They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this year. Hugo joined New Hackensack Fire Company in 1955. During his 60 plus years of membership, he served as treasurer, secretary, assistant chief and commissioner for 18 years. He also served on the Wappingers Falls planning board for 10 years. Hugo was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus of Wappingers Falls, Council 1646. He served as coordinator of St Mary's Parish in Wappingers Falls for Hudson River Housing Coalition for the homeless. He also volunteered at FDR Presidential Library. In his spare time, Hugo had many hobbies including restoring a 1932 Ford Model A pickup, refinishing antique furniture, building furniture and was a general fix-it man. Survivors include wife Jean, at home; three children: Laura Strait (Gerald) of Salt Point, Michael Musto (Glenn Clark) of Charleston, SC and Maria Musto of Charleston, SC.; 5 grandchildren: Amber Quiqley, Hannah Maxfield, Jason Rainboth, Amanda Rainboth and Lia Strait; one great grandchild, Maxwell Quiqley; a sister, Alice Pandolfi, Boca Raton FL.; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Landolfi, Gemma Musto and Julie Petrillo. Family will receive their friends on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Community Mausoleum, Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Hugo's name to St. Mary's School Angel Fund, 2 Convent Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
