Obituary of Catherine Vitale DiChiaro

Catherine passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born in New York City on February 11, 1927 to Nancy and Joseph Vitale. She was one of seven children, four brothers and two sisters. Her brothers, Jack who died during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, Gaspar, Nick, and Charlie Vitale and sisters, Nancy (Vitale) LaCatina and Providence "Purdy" (Vitale) Matterasso all predeceased her. They were a very close knit family and enjoyed spending time together. In her early years, she worked as a seamstress. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and especially cooking. She loved entertaining and always had a house full of people. She welcomed everyone into her home. Catherine met the love of her life, Joseph DiChiaro, at the age of 14 and later married. She waited for him while he was serving in the Army and fought in World War II. They were married for sixty five years and had five children. He predeceased her on April 20, 2013. She resided with her family on Pinebrook Boulevard in New Rochelle for over thirty years before moving to LaGrangeville. Catherine is survived by her five children, Frank (Corinne) DiChiaro, Joseph DiChiaro, Carol (Jerry) Stevenson, Michael DiChiaro, and Cathy (Jim) Hughes; fourteen grandchildren, Karin, Genine, Tara, Marissa, Danielle, Lauren, John, Nicole, Cathy, James, Jaclyn, Michael, Chase and Hudson; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, who she adored. Catherine's family meant the world to her. On her 90th birthday, she was given a surprise party by her family, which left her with memories she cherished each and every day! Services were private.
