Obituary of George C. Sax

George "Gus" Sax of Wappingers Falls, a 34 year area resident, entered into rest Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 56. Son of Natalie Voss Sax and the late John Sax, he was born on August 25, 1957 in Wilson, NY. He married the love of his life, June Bauer on August 18, 1983 in Hyde Park; Mrs. Sax survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Mr. Sax attended Wilson High School, graduating in 1975. He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Union College, graduating in 1979. He enjoyed a successful career with IBM as an engineer, until his retirement from the East Fishkill facility in 2012. In his spare time he was an avid bowler and enjoyed reading. He had a great passion for cooking and gardening; his gardens were admired by many. Along with his wife, June, he aspired to visit all 50 states; through his love of travel, he was able to see 45 of them as well as many islands. George loved his family, especially his time spent with his beloved grandchildren. In addition to his mother, Natalie and his wife, June, survivors include his children, Dennis Russell and his wife, Marsha of Highland, and Sherilynn Voliva and her husband, Andrew of Hyde Park; brothers, John Sax and his wife, Somkwon of La Crescenta, CA, and Robert Sax and his wife, Melissa of Geneva, NY; sister, Julia Sax of Eagle Lake, FL; sister-in-law, Kathy Kennedy and her husband, Kevin of Hyde Park; grandchildren, Amber, A.J., Cierra and Cassandra; nephews, Kevin, Matt, Trevor and Brett; niece, Summer; and his cherished cats, Chelsea, Sabrina and Jasmine. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. The family would like to thank the nurses in the Respiratory Care Unit at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, the chemo nurses at Hudson Valley Hematology/Oncology, Dr. Collins, Dr. Maresca and Dr. Reyes for all their care and compassion.
