Obituary of Jason Morse
Jason Morse of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. He was 82.
Son of the late Jason B. and Mary Garrison Morse, he was born on June 4, 1934 in Fishkill. He grew up in Beacon and later resided in Hughsonville. Mr. Morse attended Brockway School, Beacon High and Dutchess Community College. He was proud to receive his New York State Teaching Certificate to teach adult education at BOCES in Salt Point. He married Gloria Jean Phillips on July 4, 1954 in Hughsonville. Mrs. Morse preceded him in death, passing on July 13, 2008.
Mr. Morse worked for many years for J&B Parsons and B&B Auto Specialists, both in Wappingers Falls, until his retirement in 1997. He was part owner of Classic Auto Body in Wappingers Falls, as well as owner, along with his wife Gloria, of J&G Automotive Consultants. He formerly held posts as Court Officer for both the Town of Wappinger and Village of Fishkill.
Mr. Morse was a lifelong member of the Hughsonville Presbyterian Church, until their closure. Most recently, he was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. In his spare time, Mr. Morse was extremely active in his community. He was a former member of the Town of Wappinger Zoning Board, former legal aide to Assemblyman Ben Roosa, a member of the Town of Wappinger Republican Committee and a member of the Wappinger Elks #2609. Mr. Morse was a 60-year member of the Hughsonville Fire Department and sat on their Board of Fire Commissioners; the fire department held a special place in his heart.
Survivors include his daughters, Cathy Chee and Cheryl Haight (John); grandchildren, Jennifer Propfe (Chris), Jessica Moss (Matthew) and Danielle Bonini (Adam); 5 great-grandchildren; and his companion, Sophia Charkalis DiRubbio.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Gloria, Mr. Morse was predeceased by his son Jason R. Morse on November 22, 2015, and his brother, Guy Morse.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, N.Y. 12590. The Hughsonville Fire Department will hold a service during visitation at 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
