Obituary of Nunziata Panaro

Nunziata "Nancy" Panaro, a resident of Ossining and formerly of Poughkeepsie, Loch Sheldrake and Mount Vernon, died Friday, September 23, 2016 at Cedar Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94. Daughter of the late Pietro and Giovanna Zafardino Arrichiello, she was born February 20, 1922 in Mount Vernon and raised in the Bronx. On March 1, 1945, she married Joseph Panaro in Hoboken, New Jersey. Mr. Panaro preceded her in death on February 21, 1986. Nancy worked as a waitress for many years at Crown Coffee Shop in Mount Vernon. While living in Poughkeepsie, she was a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Church and was active with social activities at St. Simeon in Poughkeepsie. She was a former president of their tenant association. Survivors include her sons, Nicholas Panaro and his wife, Lisa of Ossining and Peter Panaro and his wife, Susan of Yonkers; her son-in-law, Vincent Di Fate of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Christopher and Victor Di Fate, Peter Panaro, Jr., Natalie Stack, and Danielle, Lori and Joseph Panaro; her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Gabriella Stack and Zola and Xavier Di Fate; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Roseanne Di Fate; her sisters, Madeline, Mary, Fannie, Tessie and Carrie; and her brothers, James, Anthony, Ralph and Sal. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road in Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lagrange Avenue in Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
