Obituary of Eleanor K. Rutledge
Eleanor K. Rutledge of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. She was 94.
Daughter of the late John A. and Gertrude Gresty Klump, she was born on May 12, 1919 in Poughkeepsie. She married the love of her life, John H. "Jack" Rutledge on July 23, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls. He preceded her in death, passing July 2, 2003.
Mrs. Rutledge attended Wappingers schools. She furthered her education at the Poughkeepsie Business Institute. She went on to work as a secretary for Vassar College and later for Marshall & Sterling, retiring in 1975.
In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, baking and playing games. She loved to sing and play music. Before her husband passed, they enjoyed traveling and woodworking together. Mrs. Rutledge was active in The King's Daughters where she was past president. She was also a 62 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls.
Survivors include her son, Robert J. Rutledge and his wife, Kathleen of Wappingers Falls; daughter, Pamela G. DeMarco and her husband, Michael of Medusa; grandchildren, Robert J. Rutledge, II and Eliza Auckerman of Washington D.C., James E. Rutledge and his wife, Christine of Richmond, VA, Darlene G. DeMarco of Lansingburgh, Michael DeMarco of Skaneatelas, and Chrissy DeMarco of Castleton; great-grandchildren, Mia, Evan, Gus and Caitlin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she was predeceased by her brothers, John W. Klump and Carleton G. Klump.
Family will receive friends on Friday, April 25, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls, 2568 South Avenue. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
Memorial donations may be made in Eleanor's name to the First Presbyterian Church, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
